Merchant research · Feature gaps

What Stocky Features Do Shopify Merchants Still Need?

Stocky handled a lot more than one inventory task. Merchants used it for supplier data, purchasing, receiving, case packs, costing, forecasting, counts and operational reporting.

Shopify now covers many of those workflows natively — but not always in the same way.

This public tracker shows where each workflow stands and lets merchants vote on the gaps that still matter to them.

How to read this tracker

  • Native — Shopify covers the workflow in Admin or POS.
  • Native — workflow differs — Shopify covers it, but the operating model changed.
  • Partial / manual — merchants can approximate it with metafields, exports or extra steps.
  • Specialist app / custom workflow — Shopify points to another app or a custom process.
  • Migration-only gap — the issue is preserving Stocky history or records, not a live Shopify workflow.

Suppliers & purchasing data

Multiple suppliers per product

Be the first to vote

Buy the same Shopify product from more than one supplier while keeping supplier-specific purchasing details.

Stocky
Stocky supported multiple suppliers per product with supplier-specific information.
Shopify nowPartial / manual
Shopify says each product has one Vendor field. Multiple suppliers and related details can be stored with variant metafields or metaobjects, but those fields are independent of PO ordering and receiving calculations.
Salor InvoiceRelated
Salor already has supplier-scoped Product Memory, which is conceptually relevant, but it is not a full multiple-supplier procurement system.

Suppliers & purchasing data

Supplier-specific product pricing

Be the first to vote

Keep different purchase costs for the same product when sourcing from different suppliers.

Stocky
Stocky supported separate supplier cost price lists.
Shopify nowPartial / manual
Shopify POs support line costs and adjustments, but Shopify notes these do not replace supplier-specific cost defaults or full procurement analytics.
Salor InvoicePlanned candidate
Supplier Cost Book is a strong adjacent use case because Salor already captures actual invoice costs and product cost history.

Suppliers & purchasing data

Pack / case-size handling

Be the first to vote

Order in supplier packs or cases while receiving the correct number of individual Shopify inventory units.

Stocky
Stocky supported pack sizes and pack quantities on supplier purchase orders.
Shopify nowPartial / manual
Shopify suggests storing case quantity in metafields/metaobjects, but says staff convert case packs into individual units manually when creating or receiving an order.
Salor InvoicePlanned candidate
Pack / Case-Size Memory is a strong fit with Salor's supplier-product memory but is not live today.

Costs & financial accuracy

Weighted-average cost

Be the first to vote

Update inventory cost based on existing stock plus the cost of newly received stock.

Stocky
Stocky calculated average unit cost when purchase orders were received.
Shopify nowSpecialist app / custom workflow
Shopify says each variant has one static Cost per item and directs merchants needing weighted-average costing to a third-party costing app.
Salor InvoiceUnder consideration
Salor currently uses reviewed invoice cost rather than a full weighted-average inventory valuation model.

Costs & financial accuracy

Landed-cost allocation

Be the first to vote

Allocate freight, duty and other charges into the real per-unit cost of received products.

Stocky
Stocky supported landed-cost calculations as part of average unit costing.
Shopify nowSpecialist app / custom workflow
Shopify POs can record adjustments such as shipping, fees or duties, but automatic landed-cost allocation into product cost is directed to third-party costing apps.
Salor InvoiceUnder consideration
Landed cost is a strong future Pro-level feature for Salor but is not currently available.

Costs & financial accuracy

Product / supplier cost history

Be the first to vote

See how purchase costs changed over time rather than only today's Cost per item.

Stocky
Stocky stored costing/reporting history including average unit cost workflows.
Shopify nowNative — workflow differs
Shopify has purchase-order cost reporting, while each variant still has a single static Cost per item. Historical Stocky cost data must be exported if merchants want to preserve it.
Salor InvoiceAvailable
Salor Invoice already keeps product cost history from processed supplier invoices.

PO vs supplier-invoice reconciliation

Be the first to vote

Compare what was ordered and received against what the supplier actually invoiced.

Stocky
Stocky purchasing/costing workflows provided richer purchasing context around receipts and costs.
Shopify nowPartial / manual
Shopify documents ordered-vs-received reporting. For vendor invoices, it instructs merchants to export CSV and multiply received quantities by invoice prices in a spreadsheet.
Salor InvoiceFuture
This is a strong logical expansion of Salor's invoice extraction and financial validation engine.

Purchase orders & receiving

Purchase-order API / integrations

Be the first to vote

Connect external procurement systems or apps directly to Shopify purchase orders.

Stocky
Stocky integrations relying on Stocky APIs stop working after the sunset.
Shopify nowSpecialist app / custom workflow
Shopify says Transfers API is available, while purchase-order APIs aren't currently available and are under consideration.
Salor InvoiceNot a Salor focus
Salor can evolve around invoice/receiving reconciliation without becoming a general PO integration platform.

Inventory operations

Full-location stocktakes

Be the first to vote

Run a controlled full-store inventory count with a clear audit trail.

Stocky
Stocky supported stocktakes, including barcode-scanner workflows.
Shopify nowPartial / manual
Shopify POS Quick Count supports spot checks up to 1,000 items. Shopify describes a CSV/offline process or third-party app for full-location audit-style stocktakes.
Salor InvoiceNot a Salor focus
Stocktakes are intentionally outside Salor Invoice's core product direction.

Data & integrations

Historical Stocky PO migration

Be the first to vote

Preserve old purchase-order history, statuses, receipts and supplier context.

Stocky
Historical POs remain in Stocky records.
Shopify nowMigration-only gap
Shopify says historical Stocky POs don't automatically migrate and cannot be imported with past statuses, received quantities or supplier links.
Salor InvoicePlanned candidate
A Stocky/CSV historical import is a time-sensitive candidate for seeding Salor cost history where the export contains usable data.

Data & integrations

Supplier-data migration

Be the first to vote

Move supplier records and supplier-product knowledge out of Stocky.

Stocky
Stocky stored detailed supplier information and supplier-product relationships.
Shopify nowMigration-only gap
Shopify explicitly says suppliers can't be exported from Stocky, so merchants must reconstruct the supplier information they still need.
Salor InvoiceRelated
Salor detects suppliers and keeps supplier-scoped invoice/product history, but it is not a complete supplier-master migration utility today.

Costs & financial accuracy

Supplier invoice → Shopify cost update

Be the first to vote

Review the supplier's actual invoice price and update Shopify Cost per item without spreadsheet reconciliation.

Stocky
Stocky had purchasing/cost workflows and could sync average unit costs back to Shopify.
Shopify nowPartial / manual
Shopify says Cost per item remains static when receiving. Vendor-invoice reconciliation is described as a CSV/spreadsheet process, while richer costing may require a third-party app.
Salor InvoiceAvailable
This is a core Salor Invoice workflow: extract invoice cost, match the product, review the change and apply the approved Cost per item update.

Purchase orders & receiving

Supplier invoice → inventory receiving

Be the first to vote

Turn reviewed supplier invoice quantities into inventory received at the correct Shopify location.

Stocky
Stocky supported receiving inventory against supplier purchasing workflows.
Shopify nowNative — workflow differs
Shopify supports native PO/transfer receiving. Invoice-led receiving is a different workflow rather than the native PO-first model.
Salor InvoiceAvailable
Salor Invoice can apply reviewed invoice quantities to the selected Shopify receiving location.

Suppliers & purchasing data

Supplier currency defaults

Be the first to vote

Remember a supplier's usual currency instead of re-entering currency settings order by order.

Stocky
Stocky supported supplier-level currencies and conversion to base currency.
Shopify nowNative — workflow differs
Shopify POs support supplier currency and payment terms, but these are saved on each purchase order rather than as defaults on the supplier profile.
Salor InvoiceUnder consideration
Salor is currency-aware today but does not provide a full supplier FX/default-currency procurement workflow.

Suppliers & purchasing data

Supplier spend analytics

Be the first to vote

See total purchasing spend and cost trends by supplier.

Stocky
Stocky included supplier and purchasing reporting workflows.
Shopify nowPartial / manual
Shopify says there isn't a dedicated native report for total purchase-order spend by supplier; merchants can export analytics or use external tools.
Salor InvoiceUnder consideration
Supplier spend and cost analytics are a logical extension of Salor's invoice history.

Purchase orders & receiving

Purchase-order receiving

Be the first to vote

Receive incoming supplier inventory against a purchase order.

Stocky
Core Stocky workflow.
Shopify nowNative
Shopify now supports purchase orders and receiving through the linked inventory transfer.
Salor InvoiceRelated
Salor can receive reviewed invoice quantities into Shopify locations, but it does not manage the full native PO lifecycle.

Purchase orders & receiving

Barcode labels from receiving

Be the first to vote

Print labels for newly received items directly from the receiving workflow.

Stocky
Stocky supported barcode-based receiving and label-oriented retail workflows.
Shopify nowPartial / manual
Shopify supports Retail Barcode Labels, but labels aren't printed directly from the PO screen and large partial receipts can require CSV/spreadsheet handling or another app.
Salor InvoiceNot a Salor focus
Label printing is outside Salor Invoice's supplier-invoice intelligence focus.

Forecasting & replenishment

Reorder / forecasting suggestions

Be the first to vote

Use sales and inventory data to decide what to reorder and how much.

Stocky
Stocky included low-stock/replenishment reporting and purchasing planning.
Shopify nowNative — workflow differs
Shopify recommends Sidekick for inventory analysis, demand suggestions and drafting purchase orders/transfers, plus Flow for low-stock automation.
Salor InvoiceNot a Salor focus
Forecasting is better served by Shopify or specialist planning tools than by Salor Invoice.

Be the first to vote

Stocky
Inventory history/reporting was part of the broader Stocky inventory workflow.
Shopify nowNative
Shopify provides inventory adjustment history, reasons, staff actions and custom reporting.
Salor InvoiceNot a Salor focus
Shopify's native audit/history tooling is the preferred owner of this workflow.

Where Salor Invoice fits

Salor Invoice does not aim to replace Stocky end to end.

It focuses on the supplier-document side of Shopify inventory: extracting supplier invoices, matching invoice lines to Shopify products, reviewing cost and quantity changes, receiving inventory into the selected location, and keeping product-cost history.

That makes it relevant to some of the costing and receiving gaps above — not forecasting, stocktakes or full purchase-order management.

How this tracker works

We built this tracker from Shopify's published Stocky migration guidance, documented Stocky workflows, merchant feedback, and our own work building supplier-invoice tooling for Shopify.

Vote totals represent visitors to this page. They are directional and are not a statistically representative survey of all Shopify merchants.

Salorworks builds Salor Invoice, so supplier-invoice, receiving and cost workflows overlap with our product. We label Salor's current capabilities separately and explicitly mark areas that are not part of our product focus.
